Here’s what we consider in getting the plasterboard design just right on your project.

Vintage horsehair plaster, also known as lath and plaster,

Thickness
10mm board- We commonly use this for ceilings, and it can also be used as a cost-effective alternative to the 13mm boards for walls.

13mm board- This is the preferred option to use over the 10mm board due to its better insulation and acoustic performance, providing greater soundproofing between rooms.

16mm board- A specialty product that is available for unique applications when greater fire rating, insulation, acoustic performance, or durability is required over the 13mm board.

Consider the room
The type of plasterboard we choose is specific to the purpose of the room. For wet rooms or spaces with a lot of moisture, we always select a plasterboard that is resistant to mould, bacteria growth, and resistant to structural damage from water.

Acoustic properties
For a room where noise control is important, we consider acoustic plasterboard, designed to absorb sound and improve the acoustic performance of a space.

Durability
Depending on the room’s intended use, you may choose a more durable plasterboard that is less likely to dent or scratch. We consider factors such as the level of traffic the room will receive and whether it will be subjected to frequent impact or wear and tear. If the area is prone to constant knocking or impact we might consider even moving from a plasterboard product to a fiber cement sheet.

Fire resistance
Special types of plasterboard can be resistant to fire, and useful in special applications. When considering these it’s best to engage with an expert for advice specific to your application.

Aesthetics
The appearance of the plasterboard and how it looks within the room. Plasterboard has various levels of finish for smoothness.

Level 3, generally back-of-house spaces

Level 4, for interior spaces for painting

Level 5, for high critical areas such as skylights, minor imperfections could be seen.
